Chelsea is reportedly open to sanctioning a loan move for their promising young striker, Marc Guiu, for the duration of the forthcoming Premier League season, a decision that underscores the club’s strategic approach to player development and squad management.
Guiu, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer, quickly made an impression, notably scoring six goals in just seven appearances en route to the Blues lifting the UEFA Conference League trophy, showcasing his potent attacking capabilities.
Despite his success in the European competition, opportunities for the talented forward were notably limited in other areas, as he did not manage to secure a single start in the demanding Premier League during his debut season.
Further compounding his challenge was an unfortunate hamstring injury that sidelined Guiu for crucial periods in March, April, and May, undoubtedly impacting his ability to push for consistent first-team action and build on his early promise.
Among the clubs expressing interest, Sunderland has been specifically noted for making enquiries regarding a potential loan deal for the young Chelsea striker, indicating their ambition as they prepare for their return to the top flight.
Chelsea’s willingness to sanction a temporary departure for Guiu comes with specific conditions: the agreement would be a straight loan without an option for the acquiring club to buy, and Chelsea expects the loaning club to cover 100% of the player’s substantial wages.
Sunderland, in particular, has been actively preparing for their first Premier League season in eight years by investing heavily, making nine new signings while managing significant outgoing transfers, including the sales of Tom Watson and Jobe Bellingham, to balance their financial outlay.
