Brent Jones arrives in Atlanta after an impactful eight-year tenure at Troy University, culminating in a highly successful six-year stint as Senior Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics. His leadership at Troy transformed the athletic department, establishing a blueprint for sustained excellence and demonstrating an exceptional ability to elevate programs at the NCAA Division I FBS level. His proven track record makes him an ideal fit for Georgia Tech’s vision.
Under Jones’s guidance, Troy’s athletic programs experienced unprecedented success, securing ten Sun Belt Conference championships across various sports. This impressive haul included two regular-season West Division football titles and two Sun Belt Football Championship Game victories within the last three seasons. Furthermore, the Trojans’ men’s basketball program achieved both regular-season and conference tournament championships this past year, earning a coveted berth in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, showcasing a broad-based departmental triumph.
A hallmark of Jones’s tenure at Troy was his astute ability to identify and recruit top coaching talent. Four out of seven head coaches hired under his leadership achieved conference championships or made postseason appearances within their initial two years. This strategic approach led to significant program enhancements, with three teams – football, baseball, and men’s golf – earning national rankings, underscoring his knack for building competitive and winning cultures.
Beyond on-field success, Brent Jones also spearheaded record-breaking fundraising and revenue generation initiatives at Troy. His efforts led to unprecedented figures in total fundraising, major gifts, corporate-sponsorship revenue, licensing revenue, and ticket sales. This financial acumen significantly bolstered the athletic department’s resources, enabling investment in critical areas and expanding Troy’s brand presence through innovative merchandise and licensed consumables, further cementing its identity in college sports.
Collaborating closely with university leadership, Jones championed substantial investments in athletic capital projects at Troy. These included the comprehensive renovation of Riddle-Pace Field for baseball, the development of a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility, and significant upgrades to soccer and volleyball playing surfaces. Additionally, new, larger videoboards were installed for baseball and softball, and the tennis complex received extensive improvements, demonstrating a holistic commitment to enhancing athlete facilities.
Jones’s extensive professional journey prior to his Troy AD role includes significant leadership positions at Southern Miss, Georgia Southern, and Ole Miss, where he honed his skills in external operations, marketing, and communications.
