A significant policy reversal within the Pentagon has cast a stark light on the ongoing “culture war” initiated by figures like Pete Hegseth, revealing unexpected setbacks for the Trump administration’s agenda within the military. Hegseth, who entered the Department of Defense with a clear mission to eradicate what he termed “wokeness,” had previously celebrated a Supreme Court decision supporting a ban on transgender military service. He boldly claimed an end to “dudes in dresses” in the armed forces, setting a confrontational tone for his tenure and signaling a dramatic shift in Pentagon priorities.
This aggressive stance led to the suspension of numerous Pentagon employees, including two “Gender Advisor” roles within the Women, Peace, and Security Cell. Adding to his administrative woes, Hegseth has resorted to forming a specialized team dedicated to “monitoring intimate spaces” to ensure compliance with Trump’s Executive Order 14168, titled “Defending Women From Gender Ideology.” This move highlights the continued, albeit now more reactive, focus on social policies rather than core military readiness or strategic planning, suggesting an ongoing internal struggle within the Pentagon.
