All-Star Tribute to Warren Zevon Set for L.A. with Jackson Browne & More

The music world is abuzz with anticipation for an extraordinary tribute concert honoring the late, iconic singer-songwriter Warren Zevon. Slated for this fall in Los Angeles, the event promises to be a memorable gathering of esteemed artists, including rock legends Jackson Browne, Marshall Crenshaw, Shooter Jennings, and Dream Syndicate frontman Steve Wynn, all converging to pay homage to one of the city’s most cherished musical sons.

Titled “Join Me in L.A.: The Songs of Warren Zevon,” the highly anticipated show is scheduled for October 24th at the historic United Theater, formerly known as the Theatre at Ace Hotel, in downtown Los Angeles. Fans eager to secure their spots can look forward to a special presale offer commencing on August 5th at 10 a.m. PT, with general public ticket sales opening shortly thereafter on August 8th at 10 a.m.

This significant event serves as the annual benefit produced by the esteemed Wild Honey Foundation. Renowned for its commitment to philanthropy, the Foundation consistently organizes an all-star tribute each fall, channeling proceeds towards vital causes such as autism awareness and other charitable initiatives, solidifying its reputation for impactful community engagement through music.

Jackson Browne, a figure intrinsically linked to Zevon’s legacy, plays a pivotal role in this tribute. Having produced or co-produced two of Zevon’s most beloved and seminal albums, 1976’s “Warren Zevon” and 1978’s “Excitable Boy,” which famously included signature tracks like “Werewolves of London” and “Lawyers, Guns and Money,” Browne’s participation underscores the concert’s authenticity and reverence for Zevon’s body of work.

Beyond Browne, the concert will also feature other long-standing collaborators, promising a deeply personal homage. Joining the stage will be Jorge Calderon, Zevon’s frequent co-songwriter and producer, offering a vocal performance, alongside famous session players Leland Sklar and Bob Glaub, who will be part of the backing band, ensuring a rich and authentic sound that echoes Zevon’s original recordings.

Additional guest vocalists slated to appear include the talented Inara George of the Bird and the Bee, Eleni Mandell, Susan Cowsill, and Phil Cody, with many more prominent names expected to be announced in the months leading up to the show. Guiding the musical journey for the evening will be the acclaimed Wild Honey Orchestra, led by their tribute mainstays Rob Laufer and Jordan Summers, ensuring a meticulously crafted soundscape.

While previous, more modest tributes have honored Zevon since his passing in 2003 at age 56, this upcoming event is poised to be an unprecedented exploration of his extensive catalog. Wild Honey shows are celebrated for their comprehensive and immersive musical experiences, often extending beyond three hours, and this tribute is already promising to feature an impressive repertoire of over 25 songs, offering fans an unparalleled dive into Zevon’s genius.

This year, the Wild Honey show proudly designates two key beneficiaries, reinforcing its commitment to meaningful social impact. Proceeds from the concert will directly support the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization and the Ed Asner Family Center for the Autism Community, highlighting the event’s dual purpose of celebrating music and contributing to vital causes.
