American Dream, the colossal entertainment and retail complex, is strategically transforming into a vibrant hub for sports enthusiasts, leveraging major events at the adjacent Meadowlands Sports Complex to draw in massive crowds. This dynamic approach aims to redefine the pre- and post-event experience for attendees of high-profile gatherings like the upcoming WWE SummerSlam and the prestigious Hambletonian harness race.
Mirroring successful tactics from past large-scale events, American Dream’s owners are actively anticipating a significant influx of visitors this weekend. The strategy, which they plan to extend to future NFL games and even the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is designed to entice fans heading to MetLife Stadium to explore the megamall for several hours, offering a compelling alternative to traditional event-day routines.
Gregg Schwartz, who oversees public relations and sports for American Dream, elaborated on the dual concept driving this initiative. “Pregame, the concept is a tailgate indoors with drink specials and food specials,” he stated, highlighting the unique appeal of climate-controlled convenience. “Postgame, the concept is, ‘Stay here and avoid the traffic,’” a practical solution for thousands of departing fans attending MetLife Stadium Events.
As the second-largest mall in the U.S., American Dream, a vast 3 million square-foot destination, offers far more than just retail therapy. It boasts an indoor amusement park with thrilling roller coasters, a sprawling indoor water park, indoor miniature golf, ice skating, and North America’s only year-round indoor park, providing ample recreational diversions among North Jersey Attractions.
Beyond its diverse entertainment options, the complex features over 200 stores, including flagship locations for major brands, alongside more than 100 dining establishments. These range from quick, casual bites to sophisticated sit-down restaurants and gourmet eateries, ensuring a comprehensive selection to cater to every taste and preference throughout the day.
The highly anticipated 38th annual WWE SummerSlam is scheduled for August 2nd and 3rd at MetLife Stadium. Anticipation is building for epic matchups, with single-day tickets ranging from $95 to over $425. Saturday will feature Gunther challenging CM Punk for the WWE World Championship, while Sunday promises a street fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship between John Cena and Cody Rhodes.
Complementing the wrestling spectacle is the 100th Hambletonian, often referred to as harness racing’s “Kentucky Derby or Super Bowl.” John Campbell, a six-time winner and president of the Hambletonian Society, underscores its significance. Jeff Gural, owner of the Meadowlands Racetrack, projects a turnout of 15,000 to 20,000 fans on August 2nd.
To build excitement for the Hambletonian, American Dream recently hosted a special event allowing patrons to interact with harness racing horses and view trophies. Looking ahead, Schwartz confirmed that the mall plans to offer similar dining and drink specials for football fans, even extending discounts to those wearing Giants jerseys during training camp, solidifying its role as a premier destination for Sports Entertainment Deals.
