Barking, a vibrant East London borough, is set to witness a significant transformation as plans have been officially approved to demolish the long-standing Barking Football Supporters Club, paving the way for a modern residential development.
The decision, sanctioned by Barking and Dagenham Council, marks the end of an era for the Movers Lane establishment, signaling a shift towards accommodating the growing demand for housing within the area.
Submitted by Stanford Eatwell Architecture on behalf of Sarah Bradley, the detailed application outlines the construction of a four-storey block designed to maximize urban living potential.
This new Barking development will feature a total of nine new homes, carefully diversified to cater to various living needs, comprising four one-bedroom, three two-bedroom, and two spacious three-bedroom residential flats.
Each apartment within the proposed structure is thoughtfully designed to include its own private balcony, offering residents personal outdoor retreats, complemented by a shared communal outdoor space located on the southeast side of the site.
Notably, the plans do not incorporate any provisions for car parking, a strategic decision that will result in the reinstatement of the dropped kerb outside the property, aligning with sustainable urban planning principles.
While acknowledging the loss of a former community space, the planning officer’s report highlighted that the building has remained vacant since 2023, with the applicant demonstrating that its original use has been successfully reprovided elsewhere locally, mitigating the impact.
