Big 12 Football: Top 2026 Commitments Reshape Conference Recruiting Landscape

The Big 12 conference, often overshadowed in the national recruiting spotlight, is making an undeniable statement in the 2026 cycle, boasting a remarkable four five-star prospects already committed to its programs. This surprising surge signals a shifting landscape in college football, as the conference actively elevates its talent pool and national standing.

As of July 30, the sixteen programs within the Big 12 collectively hold an impressive 33 commitments from highly sought-after blue-chip prospects. While many teams are securing elite talent, notable programs such as Arizona State, Oklahoma State, and Utah currently await their first blue-chip pledge, highlighting the competitive nature of this recruiting period.

Leading the charge in the conference team rankings, the Houston Cougars have established themselves as a formidable recruiting force. They stand tied with the UCF Knights, both securing four crucial blue-chip commitments apiece, demonstrating their proactive approach to building future powerhouse rosters within the Big 12.

Among the standout commitments is Oscar Rios, the No. 177 national prospect and No. 13 quarterback from Downey, California, who chose Arizona. Following his decommitment from another program, Rios’s recruitment was low-key, but the Wildcats ultimately made the best impression after his official visits. His junior season saw him throw for over 2,500 yards and 22 touchdowns, adding 700+ rushing yards and 11 scores, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities with 74 total touchdowns over two seasons.

Houston secured a major coup with Keisean Henderson, the No. 18 national prospect and No. 4 quarterback from Spring, Texas. Recognized for his high upside and strong arm, Henderson consistently delivered highlight plays as an Elite 11 Finalist. Initially considered an athlete, his development into a promising quarterback, coupled with significant improvements in his mechanics, positions him as a cornerstone for the Cougars’ future, making critical throws during competition sessions.

The No. 12 national prospect and No. 3 offensive tackle, Felix Ojo from Arlington, Texas, committed to Kansas State, drawn by the program’s family atmosphere and unwavering support. Ojo, a developmental tackle, possesses an ideal frame at 6-foot-6, 275 pounds, with exceptional length and hand strength. His ability to stun defenders and play with a nasty edge, combined with significant growth between his sophomore and junior years, points to immense potential in both run blocking and pass protection.

Iowa State landed Milan Parris, the No. 299 national prospect and No. 50 wide receiver from Stow, Ohio. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound pass catcher verbally committed early, in late January, fending off post-commitment offers from Power-4 programs. Parris remained solid with the Cyclones, having recorded 28 receptions for 597 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior, averaging an impressive 21.3 yards per reception, underscoring his big-play threat ability.

UCF strengthened its defensive line with Alhassan Iddrissu, the No. 320 national prospect and No. 30 edge rusher, originally from Modesto, California, now playing in Connecticut. Iddrissu, whose stock is rapidly rising, committed on June 12 and headlines UCF’s pledge list under their returning head coach. His commitment demonstrates UCF’s growing appeal to top-tier defensive talent, adding significant pass-rushing prowess to their 2026 class.

The No. 50 national prospect and No. 6 offensive tackle, Kelvin Obot from Fruitland, Idaho, brings hyper-athleticism to Oklahoma. At over 6-foot-5.5 and 300 pounds with impressive arm length, Obot dominates his competition with effortless movement and reactive quickness in pass protection. His strong leverage, ability to drive defenders, and background as a state champion thrower in track and field highlight his elite athleticism and high upside as a future NFL Draft pick, despite playing at a lower level of competition.
