Chargers Rookie KeAndre Lambert-Smith Shines in Hall of Fame Game Debut with First NFL Touchdown

KeAndre Lambert-Smith, the promising Los Angeles Chargers rookie, made an unforgettable first impression during the Hall of Fame Game, securing his inaugural NFL touchdown.

This pivotal moment unfolded in the second quarter when Chargers quarterback Trey Lance delivered a precise 15-yard pass, finding Lambert-Smith for a significant score. The Auburn product expertly broke free from the Detroit Lions’ defender on a simple slant route, showcasing his agility and hands.

The rookie touchdown marked Lambert-Smith’s second reception of the first half, accumulating an impressive 43 yards by halftime. His immediate impact in his NFL debut solidified his presence as a dynamic target for the Chargers’ offense during preseason football.

Quarterback Trey Lance also delivered a standout performance, reminiscent of the potential he displayed when drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. He efficiently completed 9 of 12 attempts for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, including a connection with tight end Will Dissly.

The Los Angeles Chargers established a commanding 21-7 lead over the Lions at halftime, reflecting a dominant team effort in the annual preseason football opener. This strong showing set an optimistic tone for the upcoming season for the Chargers.

Lambert-Smith’s transition to the NFL follows a highly productive collegiate career. After four years, he spent his final season at Auburn, where he achieved career highs with 50 catches, 981 yards, and eight touchdowns in 2024.

Overall, across five college seasons, KeAndre Lambert-Smith amassed 176 receptions for 2,702 yards and 19 scores, positioning him as one of the most productive receivers in his draft class. The Chargers clearly identified this talent, selecting him as the No. 158 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

As the preseason football continues, expectations are high for Lambert-Smith to carry his early production into his rookie NFL season. His promising start signals a bright future as the Chargers prepare for their unique regular season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
