Dodgers Shake Up Roster: May Traded to Red Sox, Call Acquired

The Los Angeles Dodgers have executed a series of strategic roster moves, including trading right-hander Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox and acquiring outfielder Alex Call from the Washington Nationals, signaling a significant reshuffle for the team’s future and present needs.

The exchange of Dustin May to Boston brought in two of the Red Sox’s highly-rated outfield prospects, James Tibbs III (No. 5 prospect) and Zach Ehrhard (No. 27), in a deal confirmed by both clubs. This trade adds promising young talent to the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system.

May, a pending free agent, offers versatility as both a starter and bullpen arm. His career boasts an 18-16 record with a 3.71 ERA, and he played a part in the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series victory, showcasing his potential as a valuable arm for the Red Sox.

His tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers was marked by significant injury setbacks, including Tommy John surgery and a peculiar esophagus tear, which have limited his playing time, making his departure understandable for both sides as they navigate the complexities of MLB trades.

James Tibbs III, 22, and Zach Ehrhard, 22, represent key pieces for the Dodgers’ future. Tibbs, drafted by San Francisco, was acquired by Boston in the Rafael Devers trade, while Ehrhard was a Boston fourth-round pick in 2024; both showed promise in their respective minor league systems, bolstering the Dodgers’ outfield depth.

In a separate yet equally important move, the Los Angeles Dodgers secured outfielder Alex Call from the Washington Nationals, sending pitching prospects Eriq Swan and Sean Paul Linan in return, according to multiple reports. This Alex Call acquisition aims to provide immediate outfield support.

Eriq Swan, a 2023 Dodgers draft pick, and Sean Paul Linan, a Colombian native, were the pitching prospects dealt to the Nationals. Both pitchers had shown development within the Dodgers’ minor league system across various affiliates, forming part of this significant MLB trades package.

These series of moves underline the Dodgers’ continuous effort to optimize their roster, balancing immediate competitive aspirations with long-term player development, solidifying their position in the dynamic MLB landscape through calculated trades and player acquisitions in the world of baseball news.
