Former BC Eagles Guard Jaeden Zackery Begins Pro Career in Finland

Former Boston College Eagles men’s basketball standout, Jaeden Zackery, has officially embarked on his professional journey, signing a contract with Kauhajoki Karhu Basket, a prominent Finnish professional basketball team based in Kauhajoki, Finland. This marks a significant milestone for the former Boston College point guard, transitioning from his impactful collegiate career to the competitive European league.

Kauhajoki Karhu Basket, a formidable presence in the Korisliiga, Finland’s premier basketball league, boasts an impressive track record. The club secured its inaugural Korisliiga title in 2018 and has since added two more championships in the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons, consistently demonstrating its dominance. The team’s commitment to excellence and its rich history of success provide an ideal environment for Zackery’s professional development overseas.

Zackery spent three seasons with the Boston College Eagles from 2021 to 2024, arriving at a pivotal time and playing a crucial role in the foundational years of head coach Earl Grant’s tenure. His presence was immediately felt on the court, as he quickly established himself as a dynamic playmaker and a reliable scorer, setting the tone for his tenure in ACC basketball.

During his sophomore year at Boston College, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed shooter consistently led the Eagles in key statistical categories, topping the team in scoring six times, assists twelve times, and steals on ten occasions. Toward the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Zackery showcased remarkable consistency, averaging nearly 15.0 points per game while distributing 3.5 assists with an impressive 2.43:1 assist/turnover ratio, solidifying his status as a key offensive asset.

His defensive prowess was equally notable; Zackery tied for fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in steals per game with 1.45 and ranked fifth in total steals with 48. He was one of only four players in the ACC to record five or more steals in three or more games, highlighting his disruptive impact on opposing offenses. These statistics underscore his comprehensive contribution to the Boston College Eagles’ basketball program.

In his final season at Boston College (2023-24), Zackery started all 36 games under Coach Grant, averaging 10.7 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He achieved career-best shooting percentages, hitting 48.4 percent from the field and an impressive 40.5 percent from beyond the arc, showcasing his offensive growth and versatility as a Boston College basketball player.

Following his impactful tenure at Boston College, Zackery transferred to fellow ACC rival Clemson for his final collegiate season. He was instrumental in leading the Clemson Tigers to a fifth-seed placement in the 2024-25 NCAA Division I March Madness Tournament, where he averaged 10.4 points per game. Though Clemson’s tournament run ended in the first round against No. 12-seed McNeese State, Zackery’s leadership and performance were significant.

At Kauhajoki Karhu Basket, Zackery joins a diverse roster that includes several other American-born players, such as former Texas Tech guard Joe Toussaint, former Georgia Southern guard Quan Jackson, former Toledo forward Seth Milner, and former Maryland Eastern Shore guard Nathaniel Pollard Jr. This blend of international and American talent is common in Finnish professional basketball and will undoubtedly contribute to the team’s dynamic. This move underscores the adventurous and growth-oriented path many American athletes take when pursuing professional opportunities overseas, broadening their experience and contributing valuable insights back to the sport.
