Fort Hood Heroes Honored: Soldiers of the Year Receive Loaner Cars

In a heartwarming display of community support and military appreciation, two of Fort Hood’s most exemplary service members, the Soldier of the Year and NCO of the Year, were recently honored with the temporary use of new vehicles by the Killeen Auto Group. This significant event underscores the value placed on the dedication of our Fort Hood soldiers and their unwavering commitment.

This generous initiative stems from a long-standing collaboration between the Central Texas Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) chapter and Killeen Auto, a community partnership dedicated to recognizing outstanding dedication within the military community. Annually, this alliance bestows a one-year loaner car upon the winners of the highly competitive III Armored Corps Soldier of the Year and NCO of the Year competitions, forming part of the prestigious Army awards.

The recent ceremony, held at Killeen Auto Group’s service center, celebrated III Armored Corps Soldier of the Year Spc. Leonyn Ojeda and Army Staff Sgt. Joel Kayoka, the NCO of the Year. Both distinguished service members received keys to their new loaner cars, a symbolic gesture of profound gratitude for their service and unparalleled performance in achieving military recognition.

Spc. Leonyn Ojeda, assigned to the 9th Hospital Center, 1st Medical Brigade, made a striking choice, opting for an all-black Ford Mustang. A four-year Army veteran, Ojeda’s commitment to service was further underscored by his recent five-year re-enlistment, demonstrating his deep dedication to the armed forces and embodying the spirit of Fort Hood soldiers.

Ojeda’s command team, including Col. Scott Preusker and Command Sgt. Maj. Osmil Sazon from the 9th Hospital Center, were present to offer their support, highlighting the strong bonds within the military hierarchy. Command Sgt. Maj. Sazon elaborated on the rigor of the Best Squad competition at Fort Riley, Kansas, emphasizing its diverse challenges from physical fitness tests to land navigation and chemical defense drills, all contributing to the soldiers’ exemplary status.

Staff Sgt. Joel Kayoka, as the NCO of the Year, also earned this prestigious recognition through his exemplary leadership and commitment to excellence. His achievement alongside Spc. Ojeda showcases the high caliber of individuals serving within the III Armored Corps and their unwavering dedication to their duties, making them true exemplars of service members.

Both service members are preparing for new chapters in their military careers. Staff Sgt. Kayoka is slated for a move to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, while Spc. Ojeda will embark on Army veterinary technician school at Joint Base San Antonio. Despite their impending transfers, both expressed immense appreciation for the generous loaner cars, which will undoubtedly assist them during their remaining time at Fort Hood, providing practical support for these esteemed service members.

This initiative not only provides tangible benefits to deserving soldiers but also strengthens the bond between the military and local community, serving as a powerful testament to the value placed on the tireless efforts and sacrifices made by those who serve. It exemplifies a thriving community partnership that actively supports the heroes of Fort Hood.
