Joao Felix’s ‘Worthless’ Talent: Ex-Teammate Slams Chelsea Flop After Al-Nassr Move

The recent transfer of Joao Felix to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr has ignited a fierce debate regarding his professional trajectory, with a former teammate publicly questioning the value of his talent. At just 25 years old, discussions are already emerging about whether his career at the pinnacle of European football has prematurely concluded, marking a significant inflection point for the Portuguese forward.

Felix first made headlines as one of the most expensive players in football history, with Atletico Madrid securing his services from Benfica for a staggering £113 million in 2019. His move to Chelsea a year ago for £46.3 million further underscored the high expectations placed upon him, signaling his continued presence at the sport’s elite level.

However, his recent departure from Stamford Bridge for a mere £26 million, a deal set to rise to £43.7 million, starkly illustrates his diminished market value. This significant drop reflects a challenging season for Felix, where his performances for Chelsea were inconsistent, failing to consistently meet the lofty expectations associated with his high-profile transfers.

The criticism intensified with a scathing assessment from his former Atletico Madrid comrade, who bluntly stated, “Joao has all the qualities to be an incredible player, but no matter how good you are, if you don’t work, it’s worthless.” This direct commentary highlights concerns about his work ethic and commitment, adding another layer to the narrative surrounding his move.

At Al-Nassr, Joao Felix will reunite with his Portugal national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, creating a formidable attacking partnership in the Saudi Pro League. His arrival was officially announced with a social media video where Felix expressed his enthusiasm, declaring, “I am here to spread joy. Let’s win together,” signaling his eagerness to contribute to his new team’s success.

During his tenure at Chelsea, Felix made 20 appearances in the initial half of the season, though he managed to start only three Premier League matches. Following this period, he completed his permanent transfer to Al-Nassr, concluding his association with the London club and embarking on a new chapter in the Middle East.

Chelsea acknowledged Felix’s contributions in an official statement, expressing gratitude: “We thank Joao for his efforts across his two spells at the club and wish him well for the future.” This formal farewell underscored the end of his time at Stamford Bridge, which, despite its brevity, included a Europa Conference League crown where he played four games.

Beyond the recent transfers, Felix boasts a career many footballers would envy, emerging from Benfica’s renowned academy to win the Primeira Liga in 2019. His accolades include a LaLiga title with Atletico Madrid and an impressive 45 appearances for Portugal, alongside two Nations League titles, cementing his place as an accomplished international player despite current critiques.
