Kenosha County Health Officer Lori Plahmer Resigns, Successor Search Underway

Kenosha County is currently undergoing a significant leadership transition within its public health sector, marked by the recent resignation of Health Officer Lori Plahmer. This pivotal moment necessitates an immediate search for a new individual to steer vital public health initiatives and services in the region.

Plahmer’s departure became effective Monday, May 6, concluding her relatively brief tenure in the top Health Officer role, which she assumed in January 2024. This rapid succession highlights the demanding nature of administrative positions within local government.

Her journey within Kenosha County’s Division of Health began in 2020 as a temporary nurse, where she played a crucial part in the COVID-19 pandemic response. She steadily advanced, becoming clinical services manager in 2021 and interim director in 2023, demonstrating a deep commitment to community health.

At the time of her departure, Plahmer earned an annual salary of $112,476. The county has since advertised the vacant position with a competitive salary range of $102,500 to $122,034, underscoring the importance and expertise required for this high-level public service role.

In her official statement, Plahmer expressed gratitude, saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the knowledge and experience I have gained by working here. I am very grateful for the time I have spent on our team and the professional relationships I’ve built.” Her words offer a glimpse into the personal reflections surrounding her departure.

Plahmer’s appointment followed the departure of Jen Freiheit, who served as Kenosha County’s public health director from December 2019 to March 2023 before moving to another career opportunity. This succession history highlights the ongoing evolution of leadership within the Kenosha County health administration.

County Executive Samantha Kerkman, in collaboration with the Human Services Department leadership, has initiated an urgent search to identify a suitable successor. The aim is to ensure a seamless transition and continuous oversight of the county’s Division of Public Health, a key aspect of Wisconsin Politics at the local level.

The process of selecting the next Kenosha County Health Officer is crucial for maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of essential public health services, directly impacting the well-being of residents across the community.
