The spirit of community and the love for active living have converged in Knappa, where the highly anticipated Fred Lindstrom Park 2.0 has officially opened, featuring two state-of-the-art pickleball courts that have already sparked an enormous surge in local activity.
This remarkable transformation of Fred Lindstrom Park into a vibrant hub for recreational sports marks a significant milestone for the Knappa area, providing residents with an accessible and modern facility designed to foster health, social connection, and athletic pursuits. The increase in park usage since the courts’ completion underscores the community’s keen interest in engaging in dynamic outdoor activities.
The successful realization of the Knappa Community Court is a testament to an extraordinary collaborative effort. It brought together dedicated community leaders who championed the initiative, passionate pickleball enthusiasts who advocated for the sport, and a generous collective of 25 donors whose financial contributions turned this ambitious vision into a tangible reality.
Last weekend marked the grand opening of the Knappa Community Court, an event that celebrated months of planning and fundraising. This new facility now stands proudly alongside the existing Fred Lindstrom Park, expanding the recreational landscape available to Clatsop County residents and offering enhanced opportunities for sports and leisure.
A significant portion of the project’s funding, totaling over $30,000, was garnered through the incredible support of local businesses and organizations. Notable donors included Hampton Lumber, Oregon Sports Action, Lums Auto Center, Nygaard Logging, TLC’ a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, and Columbia Memorial Hospital, all of whom played crucial roles in bringing the courts to fruition.
Beyond the primary focus on pickleball, the versatile Knappa Community Court has been designed to accommodate a diverse range of recreational activities. Community members can also enjoy playing basketball, spikeball, badminton, wall ball, and mini-tennis, ensuring there are options for various interests and skill levels.
Further enhancing the court’s utility and community engagement, local pickleball instructor Meyer Freeman, representing Playful Pickleball, is set to host a weekly Community Pickleball Night. These engaging sessions will take place at the Knappa Community Court every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. throughout the summer, offering free introductory lessons to encourage broader participation and welcome newcomers to the sport.
The strategic development of these new facilities and the subsequent surge in interest highlight the growing popularity of pickleball and the community’s commitment to providing excellent recreational infrastructure. This initiative not only offers a dedicated space for pickleball enthusiasts but also serves as a central gathering point, strengthening local bonds and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for all residents in Knappa and the surrounding Clatsop County area.
