A new era of public safety is dawning in Southeast Nashville with the imminent opening of the Metro Nashville Police Department’s ninth precinct, specifically designed to dramatically improve emergency response times and enhance community safety.
For too long, residents in the rapidly expanding Antioch area have voiced concerns over stretched resources, leading to average response times exceeding fifteen minutes for emergency calls in some sectors. This new facility directly addresses these critical issues.
Slated to open between October and November 1, the new precinct is strategically located at 2491 Murfreesboro Pike, the site of a former K-Mart, a move poised to bring law enforcement services closer to the heart of the community.
Currently, the vast Antioch region is covered by the Hermitage and South precincts, encompassing a combined 160 square miles, a geographical challenge that has significantly hampered the speed of police assistance.
Local leaders and residents alike express immense relief, anticipating that the new precinct will bring a tangible sense of security, allowing Nashville police to respond promptly to incidents, particularly those like persistent drag racing activities.
Staffed by Commander Carlos Lara, three lieutenants, 17 sergeants, 61 officers, and an administrative assistant, this dedicated team will oversee more than 72 square miles, including a significant portion of Percy Priest Lake.
The establishment of this new precinct will strategically reduce the coverage burdens on the South, Hermitage, and Midtown Hills precincts, streamlining operations and ensuring a more efficient allocation of police resources across the city.
With the 37013 zip code alone reporting 3,738 emergency calls and average response times over 15 minutes in 2024, the arrival of this new precinct represents a vital step towards ensuring that residents feel confident in their ability to call for help and receive it swiftly.
