Oklahoma’s premier high school athletic achievements were celebrated recently as outstanding student-athletes and esteemed coaches garnered top honors at the annual All-State events. The 2025 Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA) All-State tennis matches and golf tournaments brought together the state’s finest, with local talents from communities like Ada, Byng, Roff, and Latta making a significant impact and earning well-deserved recognition.
Among the most distinguished were Zoey Brown of Ada and Tuker Dennis from Byng, both of whom were rightfully named Class 4A Player of the Year for girls and boys tennis, respectively. Their exceptional skill and dedication on the court culminated in these prestigious accolades, highlighting their status as the cream of the crop in Oklahoma high school tennis.
The recognition extended beyond the players, with veteran Ada High tennis coach Terry Swopes earning dual honors as the OCA Region 6 Coach of the Year and the Oklahoma Tennis Coaches Association Class 4A Coach of the Year. Swopes’ leadership and commitment were instrumental in fostering the talent that brought statewide attention to the Ada tennis program.
In a memorable display of teamwork, the Ada doubles team of Zoey Brown and Jessi Bolin triumphed in their All-State East tennis match at Tulsa University’s Michael D. Case Center. Coach Swopes expressed a mix of pride and nostalgia, acknowledging their remarkable four-year journey and the profound impact they had on their team and school, noting their exemplary character both on and off the court.
The success of Byng’s athletes, including Jayci Cole and Tuker Dennis, also drew commendation from Byng head coach Toby Sanders. He emphasized the considerable time and effort required to become an All-State tennis player, stressing the critical importance of strong program support from school administration, parents, and dedicated coaches in nurturing such talent.
The All-State golf matches, held at the Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa, saw impressive performances from local linksters. Ada’s Brooklyn Black and former Ada High standout Beans Factor, alongside Roff All-Stater Emma Hardison, were key contributors to the East players’ victory over the West players, showcasing the depth of golf talent in the region.
The East players secured a narrow but decisive victory with an overall score of 26-22 in the golf tournament. Individual highlights included Plainview teammates Jace Chaney and Hudson Hobbs posting the lowest scores for the West, while Amelia Johnson of Tulsa Kelley and Sophia Lefler of Jenks led the girls’ division with outstanding performances for the East.
Beyond tennis and golf, other local athletes received honorable mentions for their athletic prowess. Ada’s Sania Richardson, although unable to participate due to collegiate commitments at Auburn University, was selected to the All-State Large East basketball team, underscoring the diverse athletic talent nurtured in these Oklahoma communities.
As the 2025 All-State events conclude, they serve as a testament to the dedication of Oklahoma’s young athletes and their coaches. These annual competitions not only celebrate individual and team achievements but also inspire future generations to strive for excellence in high school sports across the state, leaving a lasting legacy of athletic achievement and sportsmanship.
