The city is abuzz with anticipation as the much-loved Ostrichfest Beer and Music Festival makes its grand return to The Ostrich pub, promising a weekend packed with exceptional live music and a vibrant atmosphere for attendees.
This year’s highly anticipated event is further elevated by the special appearance of legendary musician John Otway, ensuring a memorable experience for all enthusiasts of music and beer culture. Otway’s return marks a significant moment for local music fans, bridging decades of performance history with fresh new festival energy. His presence highlights the diverse and exciting lineup curated for this year’s entertainment spectacle. The festival itself is a cornerstone of the community’s social calendar, offering a unique blend of genres and local talent.
Otway, renowned for his quirky stage presence and cult following, first graced the Wirrina Stadium stage in 1978, riding high on the charts with “Cor Baby, That’s Really Free” alongside ‘Wild Willy Barratt’, cementing his unique place in music history. His enduring appeal is a testament to his distinct artistry and the timeless quality of his performances, making his upcoming concert a must-see event.
Now, he is set to captivate audiences once more with his iconic hits and the delightful chaos that has become synonymous with his shows, taking the stage at The Lime Tree on Paston Lane this Sunday for a truly unique music festival experience. This highly anticipated gig is set to be a highlight of the weekend’s festivities, drawing fans from far and wide.
While he recently supported his friend Wilko Johnson at The Cresset in 2022, this upcoming performance will be Otway’s first proper headline show in the city since 2003, when he last headlined for Club With No Name at their former Upstairs at The Park venue, showcasing his long-standing connection to the local music scene. It’s a return many fans have eagerly awaited, promising a night of nostalgic hits and new memories.
John Otway, famously known as the original ‘Secret Lemonade Drinker’ from the R-Whites adverts, is a national treasure often humorously dubbed ‘Rock and Roll’s Greatest Failure,’ yet his career boasts remarkable achievements, including two top 20 hits, over 5,000 gigs, and a hit biopic, ‘Otway the Movie: The Story of Rock n Roll’s Greatest Failure,’ highlighting his enduring impact on the entertainment industry. His journey exemplifies resilience and an unconventional path to success in the fiercely competitive world of music.
Ostrichfest kicks off its musical journey with Day One featuring the energetic sounds of The 707 performing at 8pm, setting a high bar for the weekend’s live music offerings.
