Pelicans Bolster Roster, Sign Former Celtics & 76ers Guard Jaden Springer

The New Orleans Pelicans have officially bolstered their roster depth by announcing the significant signing of Jaden Springer, a versatile guard with recent experience from both the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. This strategic NBA Signing underscores the Pelicans’ commitment to fortifying their lineup with proven talent in the competitive landscape of the NBA.

Springer began his professional journey as a highly touted prospect, selected 28th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. During his tenure in Philadelphia, the young guard made a notable impact across two and a half seasons, showcasing glimpses of his potential over 50 appearances and three starts, gradually developing his game at the professional level.

His career then took a turn when he was traded to the Boston Celtics, where he quickly became an integral part of their rotation. Notably, Springer contributed to the Celtics’ triumphant 2024 playoff run, averaging 5.5 points across four appearances as Boston clinched their first NBA championship since 2008. This experience on a championship-winning team provides invaluable perspective as he joins the New Orleans Pelicans.

Prior to his NBA Free Agency leading to the Pelicans, Springer had a brief stint with the Utah Jazz following the Summer League. Despite making 17 appearances for the Jazz last season, he was ultimately waived, making him an attractive prospect for teams seeking to enhance their backcourt and defensive capabilities.

Throughout his career, the 6’4″ Jaden Springer has established himself as a prominent defensive specialist, known for his tenacious on-ball defense and disruptive presence. In a total of 110 career appearances, including six starts, he has averaged 2.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game, consistently demonstrating his commitment on the defensive end of the court.

One of his most impactful stretches occurred during the start of the 2023-24 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. Over a 32-game period, he averaged four points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per game, highlighting his ability to contribute across multiple facets of the game and provide energy off the bench for his team.

The New Orleans Pelicans’ decision to add Jaden Springer reflects a strategic move to add a reliable and experienced guard who can provide immediate defensive impact and depth. His championship pedigree with the Boston Celtics and his developmental growth with the Philadelphia 76ers make him a valuable acquisition for the Pelicans as they aim to strengthen their competitive position in the Western Conference.
