Romsey Town FC is on the cusp of a highly anticipated 2025/26 Wessex League Division One campaign, with the excitement building for their opening fixture tomorrow at the AEC Protection Ground. They are set to host Newport (IoW), marking the official start of a season that promises both familiar faces and significant changes for the squad.
Following a sixteenth-place finish last season, the club has undertaken a substantial overhaul of its first-team roster. This strategic move reflects Romsey Town’s clear ambition to improve their standing within the league and deliver a more competitive performance, aiming for a much higher position on the table.
Despite the widespread changes, a crucial element of continuity remains with several key players reaffirming their commitment. Club captain Owen Holloway, along with Manager’s Player of the Season Alex Wilson, and prolific goalscorer Maciej Marcinkowski, are all confirmed to return. They are joined by other first-team mainstays including George Ockwell, Aaron Scott, Ethan Madden, and Harry Prisk, ensuring a solid core for the squad.
Manager Andy Samuels has been exceptionally active during the summer, diligently recruiting a host of new talent to the AEC Protection Ground. Many of these fresh recruits bring considerable prior experience within the Wessex League, providing immediate depth and quality. Notable additions include Adam Pattison from Totton & Eling, Ryan Long from Folland Sports, and a trio of players from Blackfield & Langley: Harry Edmondson, Joe Merrett, and Brandon Hill.
Supporters are encouraged to engage with the club, with admission prices for the first team matches remaining at last season’s rates of £7 for adults and £3 for concessions, with free entry for children under 16 when accompanied by an adult. Season tickets, offering access to all league matches, are available for £50, representing excellent value. Furthermore, player sponsorship opportunities are open for £150, which includes two season tickets and prominent recognition on social media and in the Matchday Programme, offering valuable exposure for local businesses.
The early part of the new season presents a challenging schedule for Town. Following the league opener, next Tuesday evening will see them back at home, hosting Premier Division side AFC Stoneham in the First Round of the Velocity Wessex League Cup. This challenging cup fixture will provide an early test of the squad’s cohesion and strength against higher-tier opposition.
Looking forward to the campaign, Town boss Andy Samuels expressed cautious optimism, acknowledging last season’s disappointments but highlighting the positive recruitment drive. “I’m looking forward to getting going again,” Samuels commented, “We’ve recruited well, and I’m very happy with where we are as a group.” He emphasized the need for improved on-pitch relationships, confident they will develop as the season progresses. Samuels also addressed the ongoing challenges with the pitch, noting the tireless efforts of the new groundsman and the aid of new machinery to prepare it, with continuous improvements expected throughout the season.
