This urgent plea, championed by Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, transcends political and religious divides, highlighting a shared humanitarian imperative to prevent further suffering among Gaza’s youngest residents.
Senator Slotkin formally appealed to top State Department officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and President Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. Her letter explicitly requested the immediate “greenlight” for life-saving supplies, such as infant formula, clean drinking water, and nutritional resources, to pass through checkpoints into the war-torn territory without delay.
Drawing on her experience as a former Pentagon official, Slotkin emphasized the moral obligation for humanitarian access to be permanently approved. She argued that aid should flow into Gaza continuously, irrespective of ceasefire negotiations, asserting it must be “additive” to any existing humanitarian provisions declared by Israeli authorities.
Slotkin passionately articulated that just as the U.S. military facilitated aid in conflict zones like Iraq and Afghanistan, the Government of Israel bears a similar responsibility to prevent starvation.
