Simon Allaway, piloting his unmistakable Lotus Esprit, has emphatically powered his way to an impressive sixth position in the highly competitive Ryan Motorsport Insurance Autosport National Rankings. This remarkable ascent underscores a season of dedicated effort and exceptional driving, placing Allaway and his distinctive machine firmly in the spotlight of club racing.
Allaway’s 2025 campaign has been nothing short of triumphant, marked by a series of commanding performances that have consistently showcased his skill behind the wheel. Early successes saw him register significant victories within the fiercely contested CNC Heads Sports/Saloons category, laying a strong foundation for his overall ranking ambitions in car racing.
The pivotal moment in his rapid climb, however, came with his latest brace of wins in the Classic Sports Car Club’s Special Saloons & Modsports division. These crucial results not only demonstrated his adaptability across different racing formats but also provided the substantial points needed to propel him into the upper echelons of Autosport’s prestigious winners’ table.
Despite facing stiff competition, notably from Thomas Carey’s rapid Honda CRX during last weekend’s races at Oulton Park, Simon Allaway remained undeterred. His strategic driving and consistent pace ensured he secured the vital wins, pushing his total for the 2025 season to an impressive nine victories and dramatically improving his standing from a prior 16th place in the Motorsport scene.
Allaway’s success is mirrored by other talents making their mark; Aidan Mulready, also boasting nine wins, climbed from 26th to seventh after twice topping the Ford Fiesta element of combined Fiesta/Mini contests at Kirkistown. Yet, both drivers still face a considerable challenge, remaining five victories shy of the dominant Ali Bray, who currently holds the coveted top spot in the rankings.
The weekly rankings update also saw other notable re-entries, including Michael Cullen, who secured the Jack Sears Trophy spoils at Oulton Park in his classic Lotus Cortina. Such achievements highlight the diverse talent and machinery contributing to the vibrant landscape of national motorsport, keeping the competition dynamic and unpredictable.
The Autosport National Rankings meticulously track competitive car racing events across the UK and Ireland, ensuring a comprehensive overview of driver performance. Specific exclusions apply, such as qualification, repechage, consolation, and handicap races, along with any events held outside these two nations, maintaining the focus on core national championships.
Furthermore, class wins are only counted under strict conditions: a minimum of six starters in the class is required, with exceptions for multi-stage events or merged championships where overall winners from slower championships can contribute if their championship has at least ten starters across all classes. Only classes defined by car characteristics are considered, ensuring a level playing field based on machinery rather than driver attributes within club racing.
