Songwriters of North America (SONA) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Amazon Music, providing eligible members with crucial healthcare services.
This innovative initiative, funded by a significant donation from Amazon Music, will grant selected SONA members free Amazon One Medical subscriptions. These subscriptions offer comprehensive benefits, including 24/7 telehealth services, which also extend to their spouses and dependents, significantly easing the burden of accessing medical care.
Beyond the core subscription, the SONA Foundation and Amazon Music are further enhancing this songwriter healthcare program by offering direct financial assistance. This aid is specifically designed to help selected SONA members cover out-of-pocket medical expenses, ensuring a more holistic support system for music industry professionals.
The announcement arrives as the esteemed artist advocacy group commemorates its tenth anniversary, marking a decade of dedicated effort to uplift and empower music creators. This Amazon Music collaboration exemplifies their commitment to addressing critical needs within the music industry, proving what focused advocacy can achieve.
“SONA’s 10th Anniversary isn’t just about looking back — it’s about growing forward,” stated their executive director, emphasizing how every event, partnership, and piece of progress reinforces SONA’s belief in the collective power of songwriters to create meaningful change and secure vital medical benefits.
Throughout the spring and summer, SONA has actively celebrated its anniversary by ramping up collaborations, including a writing camp in New York City co-hosted with Alissia and Amazon Music, alongside She Is The Music. They also supported the Muni Long Songwriters Forum in Los Angeles and participated in Ross Golan’s podcast, demonstrating their broad engagement.
SONA CEO further elaborated, highlighting the organization’s long-standing commitment to bridging systemic gaps that leave songwriters without access to basic healthcare. This transformative work with Amazon Music and Amazon One Medical represents a vital step in their mission, prioritizing the health and dignity of music creators for a more sustainable future.
Tom Winkler, Head of Publisher, Songwriter, and Society Relations for Amazon Music, echoed this sentiment, stating that songwriters, as the heartbeat of the music industry, often lack access to affordable songwriter healthcare. This partnership with SONA is a testament to their shared commitment to facilitating easier access to trusted healthcare providers, safeguarding creators’ ability to thrive.
