Staunton High Celebrates New Hall of Fame Class: Honoring Legendary Local Athletes

Staunton High School proudly announces its esteemed Hall of Fame Class of 2024, honoring a remarkable cohort of six former athletes whose extraordinary achievements have left an indelible mark on the school’s storied athletic history. This induction celebrates individuals who not only excelled in their respective sports but also embodied the spirit of dedication and perseverance, inspiring future generations of Staunton athletes.

Among the celebrated inductees is Hosea Berkley, a formidable force from the Class of 2006, whose basketball prowess was instrumental in his team’s success. Berkley distinguished himself as a high-flying scorer and dominant rebounder, becoming a cornerstone of the varsity squad for three impactful years.

During his illustrious high school career, Berkley consistently garnered top accolades, earning all-district, all-region, and all-state honors. His contributions directly translated into unparalleled team success, as the Leemen captured two state championships and achieved a commendable runner-up finish during his senior year, solidifying his legacy as a true champion.

Joining him is Chris Williams, a standout from the Class of 2010, whose athletic versatility shone brightly across multiple disciplines. Williams was a pivotal contributor to both the basketball team, aiding in back-to-back Valley District titles, and the football team, which secured three district crowns during his tenure. However, it was on the track that Williams truly etched his name into the annals of Staunton sports, demonstrating exceptional speed and athleticism.

The Class of 2017’s Darius George is another celebrated addition, recognized for an unparalleled four-year basketball career where he was consistently a first-team all-district selection. George led his team in scoring in each of his four years, culminating in an astonishing career total of 1,866 points, placing him third all-time behind only two other Staunton Hall of Famers, Kevin Madden and Tyler Crawford.

Rounding out this distinguished class are Jonathan Crawford (2004), Jayden Williams (2018), and Kyle Stenzel (2019), each of whom contributed significantly to their respective teams and left their unique imprint on Staunton’s athletic programs. Their inclusion underscores the depth of talent and commitment fostered within the school’s esteemed sports environment.

This year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the rich tradition of excellence that defines Staunton athletics. These legendary athletes not only achieved personal glory but also elevated the reputation of their school, fostering a sense of pride and community among students, alumni, and local residents.

The meticulous selection process ensures that only those who have truly exemplified extraordinary achievement and sportsmanship are honored, reinforcing the prestige associated with this recognition. Each inductee’s journey represents years of dedication, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to their craft, setting a high standard for future generations.
