Vietnam’s NDAChain Secures Economy; Tea App AI Flaw Leaks User Data

The global digital landscape is a dynamic arena of innovation and challenge, exemplified by Vietnam’s ambitious strides in establishing a national blockchain platform alongside a significant data breach incident impacting a popular dating application, Tea. This juxtaposition highlights the dual nature of technological advancement: its potential to revolutionize economic structures and its inherent vulnerabilities, particularly concerning user privacy and AI security.

Vietnam is spearheading efforts to digitize its digital economy with the introduction of NDAChain, a state-run blockchain designed to provide a decentralized layer for critical national systems. Developed by the National Data Association and operated by the Ministry of Public Security, this Layer 1 distributed ledger aims to bolster the nation’s technological infrastructure and ensure robust data integrity across various sectors.

A primary application of NDAChain is its role in combating counterfeit products, especially within the food and pharmaceutical industries. Through end-to-end product origin authentication, the platform seeks to enhance consumer trust and safeguard public health. Authorities envision NDAChain as a solution to the persistent issues associated with centralized data models, promising to prevent scathing data breaches while prioritizing scalability and efficiency in the nation’s blockchain strategy.

Despite its decentralized foundation, NDA executive Nguyen Huy has indicated that NDAChain incorporates elements of both centralized and decentralized models, striving to leverage the best attributes of each for optimal value delivery. Future development phases are set to concentrate on industry-specific Layer 2 solutions, alongside pursuing international partnerships and launching comprehensive training initiatives to facilitate the smooth integration and widespread adoption of the Vietnam blockchain.

Coinciding with Vietnam’s progressive digital economy initiatives, the women-only dating safety app, Tea, has recently fallen victim to a substantial data breach. Bad actors exploited a critical loophole in the app’s backend, with an identified AI security flaw being the primary culprit behind the exposure of sensitive user information. This incident underscores the urgent need for more resilient cybersecurity measures in AI-driven applications.

Hackers managed to leak the personal data of over 13,000 women onto platforms like 4chan, including government IDs, private messages, and selfies, totaling 59.3 GB of mapped and searchable data. While Tea attributed the breach to outdated AI involved, a closer inspection revealed exposed IDs dating into 2024 and even 2025, casting doubt on the company’s claims. This event serves as a stark reminder of the sophisticated nature of modern cybercrime.

The original hacker cited “AI-based vibe coding” as the entry point for the breach, alleging a complete lack of security features, such as passwords or encryption, in Tea’s backend database, which held data for over four million users. This incident highlights the critical importance of embedding robust AI security protocols from the initial design phase of any application handling sensitive user information, especially as the integration of AI and blockchain technologies accelerates across industries.
