A groundbreaking decision by Wiltshire councillors has paved the way for a monumental 2,500-home neighbourhood near Trowbridge, set to transform the regional landscape and address critical Wiltshire housing needs.
This ambitious urban planning project, spearheaded by Ashton Park Trowbridge Ltd and Persimmon Homes Ltd, will unfold in four distinct phases, commencing with 350 residences in phase one and progressively expanding to 750 homes in its final stage.
A substantial commitment from the developers includes an investment exceeding £25 million dedicated to vital community services, encompassing new early years provisions, educational facilities, and essential healthcare and NHS dental services for the future residents of this significant housing project.
Furthermore, the Trowbridge development’s scope extends to critical infrastructure upgrades, notably a £35.5 million relief road designed to reroute the A350, significantly alleviating traffic congestion and improving accessibility for the surrounding areas and the new community through considerable infrastructure investment.
While the outline planning permission has been secured, the full realization of this expansive project is anticipated to span a considerable period, potentially up to 15 years, with various infrastructure elements becoming operational incrementally as residential phases are occupied.
The plans also incorporate provisions for a new secondary school site, ensuring future educational capacity, and address the pressing demand for affordable homes through an additional £5.4 million contribution for off-site social housing initiatives within the broader Trowbridge area.
John Gantlett, land and planning director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, underscored the profound benefits this planning application brings, citing land allocation for schools, significant employment opportunities, hundreds of new affordable homes to alleviate Wiltshire’s housing waiting list, and the crucial new relief road.
This strategic approval marks a pivotal moment for regional growth, promising not only a substantial increase in housing stock but also a comprehensive enhancement of local infrastructure and community services, setting a precedent for future large-scale developments.
