Air New Zealand is embarking on a significant expansion of its flagship Koru Lounge at Auckland International Airport, promising an unparalleled experience for its premium travelers. This ambitious project aims to redefine airport luxury, offering an elevated sanctuary designed to meet the sophisticated needs of frequent flyers. The airline’s commitment to enhancing the travel journey is evident in this substantial investment, setting a new benchmark for lounge amenities and passenger comfort within the global aviation landscape.
The expansion will nearly double the existing lounge’s footprint, transforming it into a spacious, multi-tiered facility tailored to provide distinct zones for various traveler tiers. Specifically, Airpoints Elite and Business Premier customers will gain access to an exclusive, more luxurious environment, reinforcing Air New Zealand’s dedication to its most valued clientele. This strategic design ensures personalized service and a heightened sense of privacy for those seeking a tranquil pre-flight experience.
Upon completion, the redesigned Koru Lounge will feature two primary areas. One will be dedicated to Airpoints Elite and Business Premier passengers, offering a premium and expansive setting. The second area will cater to Airpoints Gold, Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Silver, and Koru members, ensuring comprehensive access to enhanced facilities for a wider range of travelers. This thoughtful segregation aims to optimize comfort and service delivery across all premium segments.
The exclusive zone for Airpoints Elite and Business Premier customers is envisioned as a true haven, providing an expanded selection of high-end food and beverage options that reflect New Zealand’s renowned culinary excellence. Guests will also enjoy panoramic views of the tarmac and runway, adding an immersive element to their lounge experience. The interior design will subtly incorporate elements inspired by Aotearoa’s natural beauty and rich culture, making the lounge an extension of the unique Air New Zealand brand identity.
Greg Foran, CEO of Air New Zealand, articulated the airline’s vision for a world-class lounge that embodies the spirit of New Zealand’s warmth and hospitality. He emphasized the desire to create a space where travelers can relax and rejuvenate, feeling connected to the essence of the nation even before their flight. This leadership perspective underscores the project’s strategic importance in elevating the airline’s global reputation for premium service.
Construction is meticulously planned in two distinct phases, commencing in early 2026. The initial phase will focus on developing the new area for Airpoints Elite and Business Premier customers. Crucially, the existing lounge will remain operational during this period, albeit with temporary capacity adjustments to facilitate the significant renovations. This phased approach aims to minimize disruption for passengers while ensuring the new facilities meet stringent quality standards.
The second phase will involve a complete redevelopment of the original Koru Lounge space, with an anticipated reopening by late 2027. Throughout the entire renovation, Air New Zealand has committed to keeping customers informed of alternative lounge options available within Auckland International Airport via its mobile app and other communication channels. This proactive approach ensures a seamless and comfortable experience for all travelers, reinforcing the airline’s passenger-centric ethos even amidst major infrastructural upgrades.
