APTIM Secures Landmark RADMAC III Contract for Environmental Remediation Efforts

APTIM, a leading environmental solutions firm, has once again secured a pivotal role in national defense and environmental safety by being awarded the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command’s (NAVFAC) Remediation of Radiological Contaminants (RADMAC) III contract. This significant achievement marks the third consecutive RADMAC award for APTIM since 2010, underscoring a deep and enduring trust in their expertise in radiological cleanup and environmental remediation for critical government initiatives.

The RADMAC III contract will task APTIM with performing comprehensive remediation efforts at various contaminated sites across the United States. These crucial assignments will benefit the Navy, Marine Corps, and other vital government agencies, including those properties designated on the challenging Superfund National Priority List, emphasizing the complexity and importance of their forthcoming work in hazardous waste management.

This latest contract builds upon APTIM’s established legacy, directly succeeding the RADMAC I and RADMAC II contracts, which were awarded in 2010 and 2017, respectively. APTIM’s steadfast support for NAVFAC Southwest extends even further back, to the mid-1990s, with extensive projects at various bases. Notable past endeavors include significant environmental remediation projects in northern California, specifically at the Former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and Former Naval Station Treasure Island.

A senior vice president within APTIM’s Remediation & Technical Solutions division articulated the company’s long-standing commitment, stating, “APTIM has a legacy of delivering unparalleled radiological and environmental management expertise to the U.S. military and federal installations.” This sentiment reflects their enduring dedication to safeguarding the operations of armed forces while upholding a core mission of stringent environmental stewardship, a commitment proudly maintained for nearly three decades within the defense industry.

The scope of the RADMAC III work is extensive, with primary operations anticipated across California. Additionally, the contract encompasses various strategically important locations within the NAVFAC Southwest, Atlantic, and Pacific areas of responsibility, demonstrating the widespread impact of APTIM’s capabilities on a national scale.

Under the terms of the RADMAC III contract, APTIM will deploy its specialized mission-critical radiological services. These include meticulous radiological and chemical sampling and analysis, comprehensive risk assessment and modeling, robust engineering design and construction, and efficient waste management and disposal solutions, all vital for effective site restoration.

Beyond its core radiological remediation capabilities, APTIM is also uniquely equipped to undertake non-radiological remediation within radiologically impacted zones. This dual capacity ensures full compliance with all applicable licenses, stringent health and safety protocols, and meticulous waste characterization and disposal standards, providing a holistic approach to complex site challenges.

This substantial contract award reinforces APTIM’s industry leadership and follows closely on the heels of their prominent ranking as the top firm in Engineering News-Record’s highly competitive hazardous waste category. Such recognition underscores APTIM’s consistent excellence and pivotal role in addressing critical environmental and defense-related challenges, solidifying their position as a trusted partner in government contracts and environmental safety.
