Asda Slashes Ice Cream Price to 60p for 60th Birthday Celebration

In a sweet response to the soaring cost of living and in celebration of a significant milestone, a major UK supermarket is offering an irresistible deal on one of Britain’s most beloved summer treats. This move comes as consumers increasingly feel the pinch of rising prices, particularly on everyday indulgences like ice cream, making affordable access to simple pleasures more critical than ever.

Asda, commemorating its 60th birthday, has announced a dramatic price reduction on its two-litre vanilla ice cream containers, dropping them to an astonishing 60p. This special offer is available for a limited period, specifically this weekend only, creating an urgent opportunity for ice cream enthusiasts to stock up on the quintessential frozen dessert at an exceptionally low price.

To further mark its diamond jubilee, Asda launched a unique one-day Asda Price Cream Van pop-up along Brighton Promenade. This exclusive van dished out complimentary vanilla scoops to lucky seaside visitors, who could claim their free treat using a special ’60p’ voucher, adding a nostalgic and celebratory touch to the promotion.

The supermarket’s initiative arrives amid new insights into the nation’s profound love affair with ice cream. A recent survey, commissioned by Asda, sheds light on the considerable financial and consumption habits of ice cream-mad Brits, revealing just how deeply this frozen delight is woven into the fabric of daily life and leisure across the country.

The study disclosed that on average, British individuals are projected to spend more than £8,700 on frozen delights throughout their lifetime. This substantial expenditure encompasses over 3,000 portions devoured, alongside more than 2,300 treats purchased from traditional ice cream vans, underscoring the enduring popularity and cultural significance of the sweet indulgence.

Intriguingly, the survey identified Generation Z as the demographic most inclined to indulge in frozen treats, with an average prediction of nearly 12,300 portions consumed during their lifetime. This highlights a generational shift in consumption patterns and a continued appetite for sugary delights among younger cohorts.

However, the escalating price of Britain’s cherished summer staple has become a significant concern for many, deterring numerous ice-cream loving Brits. Alarmingly, almost one-fifth of consumers are now reportedly paying over £7 for a single portion, with the typical ice cream cone costing punters approximately £4.60, making it an increasingly costly indulgence.

A spokesperson for the supermarket, which has also reinstated its Price Promise to customers, reiterated the brand’s commitment. They stated, “Summer wouldn’t be summer without ice cream – but we know the cost can add up fast, particularly during the holiday season. That’s why, to continue our 60th birthday celebrations and further mark the return of Asda Price, we’re making this simple pleasure accessible to all.”
