Bedrock CEO Kofi Bonner Retires; Jared Fleisher Steps Up for Urban Revitalization

A pivotal leadership transition is underway at Bedrock, the real estate powerhouse driving transformative urban revitalization projects in Detroit and Cleveland, as CEO Kofi Bonner announces his retirement, making way for Jared Fleisher to assume the top executive role.

Bonner, who joined Bedrock in August 2020 amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, is credited with expertly steering the company through a period of significant urban renewal and strategic expansion. His five-year tenure saw the initiation and advancement of numerous key developments that reshaped cityscapes.

Effective immediately, Jared Fleisher, a seasoned executive and former vice president of ROCK, brings extensive experience from his long-standing advisory role to Bedrock founder Dan Gilbert. Fleisher’s deep understanding of commercial real estate and economic development strategies positions him uniquely to lead Bedrock into its next phase of growth.

Dan Gilbert, the visionary founder and chairman of Bedrock, lauded Bonner’s contributions, emphasizing the company’s remarkable achievements under his stewardship. These include Detroit’s burgeoning reputation as a premier urban destination and the meticulous, acclaimed restoration of iconic structures such as the historic Book Tower, a testament to Bedrock’s commitment to preserving architectural heritage while fostering modern vibrancy.

In Cleveland, Bonner’s leadership has been instrumental in the ambitious transformation of the Cuyahoga Riverfront. This sprawling initiative aims to create a dynamic mixed-use district, envisioned to feature expansive public parks, inviting plazas, and an accessible riverwalk, fundamentally redefining the city’s relationship with its waterfront.

Further bolstering Cleveland’s urban landscape, Bedrock’s portfolio extends beyond the riverfront to include a diverse array of high-profile Cleveland Projects. Notable among these are the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center, a state-of-the-art facility; the proposed 17-story Rock and Roll entertainment complex, designed to be a cultural landmark; and the immersive Cosm sports and entertainment venue, poised to become a major attraction.

Bedrock’s comprehensive revitalization efforts in Cleveland also encompass the successful repurposing of the historic May Company Building into contemporary apartments and retail spaces, breathing new life into a cherished landmark. Additionally, the strategic acquisition of the Landmark Office Towers Complex, a vital hub housing major tenants like Sherwin-Williams, underscores the company’s commitment to commercial growth and urban density.

As Jared Fleisher prepares to officially assume the CEO role upon Bonner’s departure, the continuity of Bedrock’s mission remains paramount. Fleisher is set to drive forward the established vision for integrated urban development, ensuring both Detroit and Cleveland continue their trajectories as vibrant centers of innovation, culture, and economic prosperity.
