In a move that has both delighted and perplexed fans, Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams has finally unleashed her mysterious 17-track solo collection onto streaming platforms, opting for an unconventional release strategy as a series of standalone singles rather than a cohesive album.
This much-anticipated music release follows a brief and intriguing period where the untitled album was exclusively accessible via a download code, tied to the singer’s Good Dye Young hair dye company website, creating an exclusive and almost treasure-hunt like experience for dedicated listeners.
Just days after the initial website debut and subsequent removal of the tracks, Williams surprised her audience by dropping the entire solo music project, which fans have affectionately dubbed “(Flowers for Vases / Descansos)” or “(Is This How You Stop the Noise?),” making it widely available for the first time on major streaming services.
Adding another layer to the enigma, each of the streaming singles boasts its own distinct, bespoke artwork, featuring moody black and white portraits of Williams artfully overlaid with gold squiggles, ethereal halos, subtle highlights, and cosmic planetary motifs, each subtly connected to the individual song’s title.
Notably, the new label listed for Williams’ solo music endeavor is “Post Atlantic,” a significant detail given Paramore’s recent conclusion of their contract with Atlantic Records, leading to widespread speculation and fan theories, including one widely reposted by Williams herself, suggesting the scattered single release might intentionally disrupt a pre-determined album order.
The credits, revealed alongside the unique artwork on Williams’ social media, confirm collaborations with fellow Paramore touring members, guitarist Brian Robert Jones and bassist Joey Howard, alongside Daniel James who handled production and co-writing for all tracks, while Lorde collaborator Jim-E Stack contributed as a co-writer and co-producer on the poignant protest song “True Believer,” adding depth to the diverse solo music collection.
The untitled album showcases Williams’ versatile artistry, spanning acoustic ballads like “Blood Bros” and “I Won’t Quit On You,” the dreamy “Kill Me,” and poppy tracks such as “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party.” It also delves into more experimental sounds, from home studio-esque confections with pitched-up vocals like “Glum” to the hip-hop-adjacent “Ice In My OJ” featuring a drum machine beat and a raw, whisper-to-scream chorus, highlighting the breadth of her new music.
As of press time, Hayley Williams has maintained a characteristic silence regarding the official title or the comprehensive details of this significant music release, leaving fans to eagerly anticipate whether this untitled album will be recognized as the official follow-up to her previous critically acclaimed solo works, “Petals for Armor” or “FLOWERS for VASES / descansos.”
