A significant Milford Police operation in Milford, Massachusetts, culminated in the early Friday morning arrest of a local man wanted on severe child abuse charges, following a brief but intense foot chase through residential areas.
Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Manuel Umana Solorzano, an El Salvadoran national, who was targeted by Milford police detectives working in close coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service. The apprehension initiative began shortly after 4 a.m. in the vicinity of Court Square, where law enforcement meticulously planned their approach.
Surveillance efforts paid off around 5:41 a.m. when detectives and marshals observed Umana Solorzano exiting his residence and approaching a waiting Ford Transit van. As officers moved in to effect the police arrest, the suspect abruptly fled on foot, initiating a pursuit towards North Bow Street.
Milford police detectives demonstrated swift action, closing in on Umana Solorzano as he entered the backyard of a residence on North Bow Street. The pursuit concluded with officers deploying a Taser to subdue him, ensuring his safe apprehension after his attempt to evade custody in this Massachusetts crime.
Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino issued a stern statement following the arrest, emphasizing the department’s unwavering commitment to protecting children. “Someone who is suspected of taking advantage of children will find no quarter in Milford. There will be no shelter, no safe haven, no sanctuary for people who are suspected of such crimes against children,” Chief Tusino declared, underscoring the community’s zero-tolerance stance against child abuse.
Umana Solorzano faces a litany of grave accusations, including indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, possession of child pornography, and reckless endangerment of a child. Further charges include photographing the sexual or intimate parts of a child, statutory rape of a child, and child rape charges with force, highlighting the severe nature of the alleged offenses.
Additional charges levied against the suspect include lascivious pose/exhibiting a child in the nude and resisting arrest, reflecting the entirety of his alleged conduct and his actions during the apprehension. The suspect was subsequently booked at the Milford Police Department, where he was processed for the numerous allegations. Manuel Umana Solorzano was scheduled for arraignment on Friday in Milford District Court, where the legal proceedings for these serious charges will commence.
