The highly anticipated Morton Loggers Jubilee, affectionately known as the “granddaddy of all logging shows,” is set to make its triumphant 82nd annual return to the East Lewis County community from August 7th through August 10th. This beloved timber festival seamlessly blends the raw power and precision of traditional logging sports with an array of uniquely entertaining events, promising a memorable experience for all ages and interests.
At the heart of the Jubilee are the thrilling lumberjack competitions, where elite athletes showcase their incredible skills in disciplines that are both ancient and awe-inspiring. Spectators flock to witness expert demonstrations of axe throwing, the delicate balance of birling, the rapid ascent in speed climbing, and the powerful techniques of the horizontal chop and stock saw events. Each event highlights the strength, agility, and mastery required in these traditional forestry arts.
The Jubilee Arena buzzed with intense competition, featuring notable participants such as Zak Holsey excelling in the demanding tree topping event, and Nate Hodges demonstrating his prowess in the horizontal chop, even as a log unexpectedly split. Brian Bartow captivated audiences with his swift ascent during a climbing race, while Chris Rau exhibited precision in Choker Setting. The father-and-son duo, Mike and Chris Nicholas, also impressed with their synchronized log sawing, illustrating the legacy passed through generations in the Morton Jubilee.
Beyond the classic logging events, the Jubilee expands its appeal with quirky and exhilarating motorsports. Fans of the unconventional are treated to the spectacle of lawnmower racing, where custom-built machines vie for supremacy in high-speed, grassroots competition. Additionally, the Morton Loggers Jubilee Championship Bed Races add a humorous and spirited dimension, transforming Main Street into a comical arena for team-based contests.
The celebration extends throughout the community with a host of family-friendly activities designed to engage everyone. The Grand Parade, led by grand marshals Janet and Greg Norris under the theme “Long Live the Lumberjack and the Log-Haulers,” parades down Main Street, celebrating local heritage. Other highlights include the dignified Queen Coronation ceremony, recognizing community leadership, and a lively 10K fun run for enthusiastic participants.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere is the sprawling 33rd annual Morton Loggers Jubilee Flea Market, situated south of the Morton Country Market. Here, dozens of vendors and artisans offer a diverse range of goods, creating a bustling marketplace for unique finds and local crafts. This popular attraction provides a perfect opportunity for attendees to explore, shop, and enjoy the lively community spirit throughout the weekend.
Key events like the lawnmower races and logging show take place at the Jubilee Arena, located at 451 Knittles Way. The Queen Coronation is held inside the Morton High School gymnasium, and the championship bed races and grand parade animate Main Street in downtown Morton. The Jubilee Saturday Night Street Dance offers evening entertainment at the Morton Senior Center parking lot, ensuring continuous engagement from morning till night, all made possible by generous sponsors including Alta Forest Products, Weyerhaeuser, and Papé Kenworth Northwest.
