A heartwarming community event recently transformed Sunset Villa Healthcare in Roswell, as the nursing home facility hosted a vibrant celebration dedicated to honoring the unwavering commitment of local first responders. This unique gathering provided a lively platform for residents and emergency personnel to connect, fostering stronger bonds within the community.
The atmosphere outside Sunset Villa was nothing short of a tropical paradise, with the yard festooned with an array of whimsical pink flamingos, towering inflatable palm trees, and an exhilarating tropical-themed waterslide. This festive setting set the stage for an unforgettable day of appreciation and camaraderie for all attendees.
According to Sheena Messick, community liaison for Sunset Villa, the primary aim of the event was multifaceted: to demonstrate profound support for the community’s essential public services and to actively keep its patients engaged in meaningful social interactions. “We are honoring our first responders,” Messick affirmed, “They do so much for us, we are thanking them for all they do.”
The celebration offered a precious opportunity for first responders and patients to enjoy valuable one-on-one time. Dietary manager Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendez and Julio Chacon diligently served up a delicious array of chips, refreshing sodas, and freshly grilled hotdogs and hamburgers, ensuring everyone’s comfort and enjoyment during the community engagement.
Sunset Villa Healthcare, currently home to slightly over fifty patients, prides itself on offering comprehensive care, including rehabilitation services, long-term care, and specialized occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Messick reiterated the facility’s core philosophy, stating, “We’re here to make the residents happy and motivated and make them feel alive and loved and motivated.”
Amanda Roy, clinical liaison for Sunset Villa, highlighted the diverse participation, noting that agencies such as American Medical Response, the Roswell Fire Department, the Roswell Police Department, and the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office were all invited to join the festive occasion, alongside various members of the broader community. The event underscored a desire for increased interaction with public services.
Roy emphasized the facility’s proactive approach to community involvement, stating, “We want to be more involved in the community and [with] first responders. We want to change the feel.” Echoing this sentiment, Franklin, a participant from law enforcement, noted the positive impact: “It’s good to spend time with the community and show the positive aspects of law enforcement. It helps build stronger relationships with the community.”
