At the heart of Nancy’s world was her family. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Daniel A. Orth III, with whom she built a life filled with enduring love and support. As a cherished mother to Deborah Marion Orth, Daniel A. Orth IV (Jessica), and Andrew C. Orth (Shana), she provided unwavering guidance and affection. Her role as an adoring grandmother to Charles Eipert (Abbey McNally), Tuckerman, Kaylee, and Simone Orth brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
Nancy’s pursuit of knowledge and her commitment to helping others began early. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University in 1963, where she was also a proud member of Gamma Phi Beta International Sorority. Her academic journey continued as she obtained her Master of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from The Catholic University of America in 1966, laying the groundwork for a distinguished career.
Throughout her professional life, Nancy M. Orth was a respected mental health professional and a passionate educator. She shared her extensive knowledge and experience at esteemed institutions such as Evanston Hospital School of Nursing, the University of Illinois, Barat College, and the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School. Her dedication to mental health advocacy also led her to teach at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Lake County, where she inspired countless students and future practitioners.
Beyond her direct educational roles, Nancy was a visionary and a dedicated volunteer. She notably co-founded and served as a Board Member of Independence Center in Waukegan, an organization committed to supporting individuals with mental illness. Nancy was an active member in both the local school system and the village administration, contributing her time and insights to bettering her immediate surroundings. Her presence was a cornerstone of community life, reflecting her belief in active participation and service.

She was celebrated as the very best grandmother, always eager to embark on adventures and outings, embracing life’s joys until her final days.
