Tyneside Charity Football Unites for Young Cancer Fighters Fundraiser

The spirit of Tyneside is set to shine brightly as an annual charity football game in Gateshead prepares to unite the community for a cause deeply touching many hearts. This poignant event serves a dual purpose: honoring the cherished memory of Matt Hall, a young footballer whose legacy continues to inspire, and rallying support for Finley Robson, a courageous tot currently facing a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Matt Hall’s untimely passing has left an indelible mark on the community, galvanizing efforts to ensure his memory contributes meaningfully to the fight against childhood cancer. The annual match stands as a testament to his brave spirit, embodying a collective commitment to support other young individuals and their families navigating similar challenging journeys, ensuring that hope prevails even in the darkest times.

This year, the spotlight also falls on Finley Robson from Chester-le-Street, whose story of resilience has deeply moved the organizers and participants. Diagnosed with Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT) just after his first birthday, Finley began an arduous five-month chemotherapy regimen in June. The funds raised from this event will directly aid Finley’s family, providing crucial support during his ongoing treatment and recovery.

The charitable initiative is spearheaded by Chrissy Quigley, a leukaemia survivor himself, who has passionately organized this amateur match since 2013. His personal experience with cancer infuses the event with profound meaning, driving its sustained success and emphasizing the importance of community solidarity in the face of such formidable health battles.

Set to take place at the Fiddler’s Three in Gateshead on Saturday, August 2nd, the event promises an exciting day of amateur football action. Local Newcastle and Sunderland teams will face off, bringing a friendly rivalry to the pitch while contributing to a noble cause. The atmosphere is anticipated to be vibrant and filled with community spirit.

The proceeds generated from the game are dedicated to two vital beneficiaries: the Children’s Cancer Ward at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), a crucial facility providing specialized care, and a chosen family in need. This year, Finley Robson’s family will be the direct recipients of a portion of the funds, offering tangible relief and assistance during a challenging period.

Beyond the football match, attendees can look forward to a diverse range of entertainment throughout the day, ensuring there’s something for everyone. This inclusive approach reinforces the event’s role as a community gathering, fostering a sense of togetherness and shared purpose in supporting those affected by childhood cancer.

Ultimately, this annual charity football game transcends a mere sporting event; it represents the powerful synergy of remembrance, hope, and unwavering community support. It highlights how collective effort, fueled by compassion and shared humanity, can make a profound difference in the lives of young individuals and families confronting the formidable challenges of cancer.
