Alaska Airlines Unveils Enhanced Premium Class on 737-800 Fleet

Alaska Airlines has achieved a significant milestone in its ambitious airline modernization plan, successfully completing the cabin upgrade for its first Boeing 737-800 narrowbody aircraft. This pivotal step ushers in a new era of passenger comfort and an elevated travel experience, setting a benchmark for the industry.

The newly refurbished Boeing 737-800, identified as N558AS, now showcases a premium-heavy cabin featuring state-of-the-art RECARO seats. These cutting-edge designs are meticulously crafted to provide superior comfort and functionality, fundamentally transforming the onboard environment for travelers seeking premium travel options.

This initial upgrade is just the precursor to a comprehensive fleet-wide transformation, as Alaska Airlines is committed to retrofitting a total of 59 Boeing 737s by the summer of 2026. This extensive program directly addresses the increasing demand for more comfortable and enhanced seating configurations across the airline’s extensive network.

Key enhancements within the upgraded cabin include an expanded first-class section, now boasting 16 seats, a notable increase from the previous 12, alongside improved premium and main cabin seating. Crucially, all cabin classes now feature convenient USB-C charging outlets, ensuring passengers can remain powered and connected throughout their journey, a significant aircraft upgrade for modern travelers.

Beyond seating and power, Alaska Airlines is implementing practical changes designed to streamline operations and further enhance passenger comfort. The introduction of reserved overhead bin placards above premium class seats is a strategic move aimed at making the boarding process more efficient and alleviating the stress associated with finding space for carry-on luggage.

Further comprehensive cabin enhancements are also part of this airline modernization initiative. Passengers can anticipate updated bulkheads, new cabin dividers, luxurious leather seating, and refreshed carpeting throughout the aircraft. These collective improvements contribute to a more cohesive, modern, and inviting onboard atmosphere for every traveler.

In addition to its existing fleet, Alaska Airlines is actively focusing on the integration of Hawaiian Airlines’ aircraft following their merger. While specific details are pending, plans include enhancing Hawaiian Airlines’ fleet of Airbus A330s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners, ensuring consistency and an elevated experience across the combined network and solidifying their position in premium travel.

The merger also unlocks exciting new route possibilities, notably a direct service to Seoul-Incheon International Airport (ICN) in South Korea, commencing September 12, 2025. This expansion, leveraging Hawaiian Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, significantly diversifies Alaska Airlines’ international offerings and market reach.

The successful completion of the first Boeing 737-800 cabin upgrade marks a pivotal moment for Alaska Airlines, underscoring its commitment to innovation and passenger comfort. With ambitious plans for fleet retrofitting and strategic integrations, the airline is poised to redefine the future of air travel, promising an unparalleled and seamless flying experience for years to come.
