Henry County Fair is set to host a unique and heartfelt celebration, dedicating an entire day to honor its esteemed senior citizens and military veterans. This special Community Event aims to provide a memorable experience for these cherished community members, filled with engaging activities and thoughtful recognition designed exclusively for them.
On August 12th, the fairgrounds will open its gates with complimentary admission for individuals aged 65 and older, all veterans, and their spouses. This inclusive initiative also extends to individuals with developmental disabilities and their accompanying aides, ensuring broad accessibility for all who wish to partake in the day’s festivities at the Henry County Fair.
A poignant highlight of the Senior Citizens Day program will be the recognition of long-standing marital bonds within the community. Couples who have celebrated over five decades of marriage are warmly invited to contact the Henry County Senior Center, offering a unique opportunity for public acknowledgment of their enduring commitment.
The Henry County Senior Center will further enrich the day’s offerings with an informative program held at 2 p.m. in the agricultural hall. This session will provide valuable insights into the diverse range of services and support systems available to seniors across the county, fostering greater awareness and connection as part of the Veterans Appreciation efforts.
Beyond educational programs, the Local Fair will cater to all tastes, prominently featuring a complimentary bean soup supper specifically for veterans and their spouses. This communal meal, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in the Veterans Entertainment Tent, offers a moment of camaraderie and appreciation for their service.
Throughout the day, the fairgrounds will buzz with a variety of engaging attractions, enhancing the overall experience for all attendees. Enthusiasts can marvel at intricate model trains operating from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the depot, explore the rich heritage in the historical area open from 11 a.m. until dusk, and enjoy an antique tractor show alongside games at 1:30 p.m. in the historical vicinity. The excitement continues with thrilling harness racing at the grandstand commencing at 6 p.m.
Community spirit will also be evident through several charitable initiatives, including a highly anticipated 90×98 inch quilt raffle. Tickets are affordably priced to encourage widespread participation, with proceeds directly benefiting the vital programs and services offered by the Henry County Senior Center, supporting local elderly care through Charity Auctions.
Further opportunities for giving back will arise with additional auctions designed to support key local organizations. Following the Shine in the Show event, a cookie auction will benefit the Henry County Junior Fair Board, fostering youth engagement in agriculture, while a wood carving auction will raise funds for the Henry County Agricultural Society, supporting broader agricultural initiatives at the Henry County Fair.
