Jamestown High School is poised for an exciting academic year, welcoming a host of new faculty members while simultaneously implementing significant updates to its electronic device policy, marking a pivotal shift in campus guidelines and educational approach.
The start of a new school year invariably brings with it a palpable sense of renewed purpose and enthusiasm, fostering an environment ripe for fresh opportunities and a reinvigorated commitment to both academic excellence and holistic personal development within the vibrant school community. Returning students and new attendees alike contribute uniquely to the diverse tapestry that defines the Jamestown High School family, enriching the collective experience.
A notable influx of talented professionals will enhance the educational landscape at Jamestown High School this year. Karla Rosario rejoins the faculty to teach English, while the mathematics department expands with the addition of Zeb Willer and Morgan Haerer. The Special Education Department proudly welcomes Reagan Celaya, and the music program sees new leadership with Jacob Sherfy instructing choir and Brittany Schwingler leading the band. Furthermore, Halsey Mahoney joins the guidance team as a new counselor, complementing the student support system alongside new para-educators Barb Jorgenson and Taylor Winter.
While much of the established routine remains consistent, students should be aware of a subtle yet significant adjustment to the weekly timetable. The bell schedule for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will continue as usual; however, a revised schedule has been implemented specifically for Wednesdays, details of which are prominently featured on page 18 of the newly distributed student planner.
Perhaps the most impactful change for the upcoming academic year concerns the refined electronic device policy. To cultivate an optimal learning environment, cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches, and privately-owned tablets are now mandated to remain stowed within a bag or backpack during classroom hours. The only exception to this directive is when a teacher explicitly permits the use of such a device for a specific educational activity, underscoring a commitment to focused academic engagement.
Adherence to this updated technology protocol is crucial, and clear consequences are established for non-compliance. Students found in violation of the policy will be required to surrender their electronic device to staff members immediately. A first offense will result in a one-hour in-school suspension, with the device returned to the student at the end of the school day. However, for any subsequent infractions, parents or guardians will be required to personally retrieve the device from the school, reinforcing the importance of responsible device management.
Changes also extend to the structure of online learning initiatives. Freshman, sophomore, and junior students enrolled in online courses for high school or dual credit are now required to report to a designated classroom for the entirety of each class period. This ensures structured support and access to resources for these vital academic programs.
Seniors participating in online learning for high school or dual credit will maintain a degree of flexibility, checking in with their online instructor in the designated classroom one day per week. Additionally, seniors who have completed their coursework and maintain a minimum “C” average in that specific online class are granted the privilege of leaving campus, fostering a balance between accountability and independent study.
The administration extends profound gratitude to all parents and guardians for their unwavering trust and collaborative spirit. Their active involvement and consistent communication with the school staff are indispensable elements in fostering an empowering and successful educational journey for every student. Together, the Jamestown High School community is poised to achieve remarkable milestones and create a truly memorable academic year, marked by growth, learning, and countless accomplishments.
