Their contributions ranged from personal letters detailing their visions of future travel to an assortment of cherished Beavers memorabilia, including badges and certificates, all destined to be unearthed years from now, highlighting valuable youth involvement.
The carefully curated collection sealed within the time capsule offered a rich tapestry of contemporary life. Among the significant inclusions were detailed maps extracted from the Airport’s ambitious 2040 Masterplan, providing a strategic blueprint for its anticipated growth and development over the coming 15 years, underscoring its commitment to regional progress.
Further encapsulating the present day were a diverse array of items: a modern travel catalogue, a daily newspaper capturing the headlines of 2025, and even a cocktail menu from the Airport’s popular Aster & Thyme bar. These everyday objects provide a snapshot of commerce, media, and leisure, reflecting the daily rhythm of the Newcastle Airport environment.
Commemorative lanyards, tote bags, and pens, distributed to staff in celebration of the Airport’s significant birthday, were also preserved. The enthusiasm of the young contributors was palpable, with seven-year-old Beaver James Parkin expressing his joy: “I loved coming to the Airport and helping to bury the capsule. It was really fun and I hope people in the future like what we put inside.” His team leader, Steve Warner, echoed this sentiment, calling it “a fantastic experience” for the children.
The Airport’s official 90th birthday fell on July 26, with celebrations extending beyond the time capsule event.
