Peigi MacLennan Assumes Key Royal National Mòd Interim CEO Role

Peigi MacLennan, a figure deeply rooted in the preservation and promotion of Scotland’s vibrant Gaelic language and culture, has officially stepped into the crucial role of Interim Chief Executive Officer for An Comunn Gàidhealach, the esteemed parent organization behind the Royal National Mòd. This appointment signals a pivotal moment for the premier celebration of Scottish Gaelic heritage, ensuring continuity and experienced leadership at its helm.

With an impressive 26-year tenure within An Comunn Gàidhealach, MacLennan brings unparalleled institutional knowledge and a profound understanding of the organization’s mission. Her academic foundation includes a degree in Gaelic Language and Culture from the University of the Highlands and Islands, complementing her extensive practical experience.

Throughout her distinguished career, she has held significant internal positions, notably serving as the Company Secretary and Office Manager. In these capacities, MacLennan provided essential support to successive Chief Executive Officers, meticulously managing financial oversight, administrative functions, and critical operational matters, thereby cementing her reputation as a reliable and indispensable asset.

Her unwavering commitment and lifelong dedication to the Gaelic language and its cultural expressions are widely recognized as the cornerstones of her suitability for this demanding leadership post. Colleagues and stakeholders alike commend her deep-seated passion, which she now brings to the forefront in steering one of Scotland’s most significant cultural bodies.

MacLennan’s appointment follows the departure of James Graham, who is transitioning to a new role at Bòrd na Gàidhlig after more than 15 years of dedicated service to An Comunn Gàidhealach. Graham’s long tenure saw significant growth and stability for the organization, and his move marks the end of an era, paving the way for fresh leadership.

The leadership transition will see James Graham continue in his current position on a part-time basis through August, facilitating a smooth handover period. Peigi MacLennan will officially assume the interim role on a full-time basis following the conclusion of this year’s Royal National Mòd, which is scheduled to take place in Lochaber from October 10 to October 18.

Expressing her profound honor, Peigi MacLennan remarked, “It is an honour to take on the role of Interim CEO at such a pivotal moment for An Comunn Gàidhealach. I am deeply passionate about the Gaelic language and culture, and have dedicated the last 26 years of my career to supporting the continued success of the Royal National Mòd and the promotion of Gaelic across Scotland.” She affirmed her commitment to leading with passion and determination over the next year.

Maggie Cunningham, the esteemed Chair of An Comunn Gàidhealach, warmly endorsed MacLennan’s appointment, stating, “Peigi brings a wealth of experience and a profound commitment to the Gaelic language and culture. Her knowledge of the organisation, her vast network and enduring passion make her the perfect person to step into this interim role.” She also highlighted the collaborative effort ahead, with MacLennan and the Board working to define the organization’s optimal long-term structure.
