Quick Action Saves Woman’s Life After Bills Practice Incident

A dramatic scene unfolded at Highmark Stadium following the Buffalo Bills’ Blue and Red practice, where quick-thinking individuals and dedicated first responders provided critical lifesaving care to a 70-year-old woman found unresponsive. This incident underscores the importance of vigilant stadium security and immediate emergency response protocols in large public venues.

The alarming discovery was made around 7:40 p.m. on Friday when Reserve Deputy John Klingesmith and Reserve Deputy Greg Daniel located the woman slumped over a railing in a walkway adjacent to Section 101. Their swift observation proved crucial, setting into motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to a positive outcome in a dire situation.

Upon discovering the unresponsive fan, the deputies immediately took action, working with others present to carefully transport the woman to a more accessible area at the top of the walkway. This rapid relocation was vital, allowing for unhindered access to provide crucial medical assistance.

Once the woman was moved, emergency medical services were administered, with CPR being performed diligently until a pulse was detected. This critical intervention, performed by trained deputies and assisting personnel, highlighted the preparedness of those on site to handle a severe medical emergency.

Following the successful resuscitation efforts, physicians and EMTs on the scene assessed the woman’s condition and determined she was stable enough for transport. She was then carefully escorted out of the stadium through Gate 2, with patrol deputies providing an escort to Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, ensuring a seamless transition of care.

At Mercy Hospital, the 70-year-old female was admitted in stable condition, a testament to the effective and coordinated emergency response by all involved. Her recovery is a direct result of the prompt recognition of the crisis and the professional application of lifesaving techniques by the stadium’s security and medical teams.

Notably, this marks the second occasion within the last eight months that deputies and other personnel have provided critical lifesaving measures to a fan at Highmark Stadium. A similar incident occurred on December 22, 2024, when a 61-year-old man also received urgent care after becoming unresponsive, further emphasizing the recurring need for robust public safety measures at major events.

These incidents serve as powerful reminders of the dedication and preparedness of first responders and security personnel at sports venues. Their training and immediate actions are pivotal in ensuring fan safety and providing a secure environment for all attendees, reinforcing confidence in the emergency protocols in place at such large-scale gatherings.
