CM Punk was riding high in the main event of WWE SummerSlam 2025, having just defeated Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a monumental victory that placed him atop the wrestling world.
His celebratory moment, however, was shockingly brief and brutally interrupted by the unexpected return of Seth Rollins, whose familiar entrance music “Burn it Down” blared through the speakers of MetLife Stadium.
Rollins’ appearance was a stunning development, especially given previous reports of an injury sustained at an earlier event, leading many to believe he was out of action for an extended period.
Yet, this supposed injury proved to be an elaborate ruse, part of an ingenious plan to target the newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion, ironically, the very man Seth Rollins had notoriously “screwed” multiple times over the past two years.
Appearing on the ramp with Paul Heyman and seemingly on crutches, Rollins executed his deception flawlessly before discarding the crutches, grabbing his Money in the Bank briefcase, and sprinting towards the ring with a referee in tow.
He mercilessly assaulted CM Punk with the briefcase, initiating his cash-in attempt as the bell rang, culminating in a decisive Stomp to Punk’s head, immediately crowning Seth Rollins as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Thus, CM Punk’s reign, which had promised so much, lasted a mere five minutes, abruptly ending his return to glory in a flash of shocking betrayal, while Seth Rollins once again orchestrated what many, including Michael Cole, dubbed the “rouse of the century.”
