US Deports Ten Jammu and Kashmir Residents in 2025

A recent report has brought to light the significant number of Indian nationals who have been deported from the United States this year, highlighting critical aspects of international immigration policies. Among these individuals are ten residents hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the broad geographical impact of these deportations across India.

As of July 22, 2025, a total of 1,703 Indian nationals have been deported by US authorities. This comprehensive figure covers the period from January 20, 2025, demonstrating a consistent and considerable enforcement of immigration laws by the American government within a relatively short timeframe.

The data meticulously breaks down the state-wise distribution of these deported Indian citizens. Punjab accounts for the largest share with 620 individuals, followed closely by Haryana with 604. Gujarat saw 245 of its residents deported, while Jammu and Kashmir had 10. A small contingent of six individuals were categorized under an “unknown” state, reflecting the diverse origins of the deportees.

The issue of deportation garnered parliamentary attention when DMK MP Kanimozhi formally queried the Ministry of External Affairs. Her inquiry specifically sought information on whether the government maintains comprehensive data regarding Indian citizens deported from the US since the beginning of 2025, pointing to the growing concern surrounding this matter.

Beyond the current year’s figures, official records indicate a substantial number of Indian nationals faced deportation from the US in the preceding five years. Between 2020 and 2024, a total of 5,541 individuals were deported, signaling a persistent pattern of such actions by American immigration authorities over half a decade.

The scope of these deportations extends beyond the United States. Data also reveals that 311 Indian nationals were deported from the United Kingdom between 2020 and 2024. In the current year, up to July 2025, an additional 131 Indians have been deported from the UK, further emphasizing the global nature of immigration enforcement impacting Indian citizens.

Delving deeper into the 1,703 Indian nationals deported by the US government this year, the statistics reveal a demographic breakdown of 1,562 men and 141 women. These individuals were transported back to India via various means, including 333 in US military flights in February, 231 in charter flights operated by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in March, and 300 through Department of Homeland Security charter flights in July, based on government shared information.

In response to concerns, the Ministry of External Affairs has affirmed its ongoing diplomatic efforts with the US government. The ministry’s primary objective is to ensure the humane treatment of deportees throughout the entire process of their removal operations, highlighting India’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad.

Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs has stated that it has not received any formal complaints pertaining to the treatment of deportees on any flight after February 5, 2025, indicating that diplomatic engagements and established protocols may be having a positive impact on the process and treatment of individuals undergoing deportation.
