The Whiting-Robertsdale community mourns the peaceful passing of Luelle M. Kutcka (nee Obuch), who departed on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the age of 82. Surrounded by her loving family at her residence, Luelle’s long and meaningful life leaves behind a profound impact on those she touched, particularly within her cherished community.
Luelle is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Richard Kutcka, a testament to their enduring bond and shared journey. Their union brought forth two children, Scott and Stephanie, who served as central figures in her life and continue her enduring family legacy. Her dedication as a mother was evident in every aspect of her existence.
Beyond her immediate family, Luelle was a cherished sister to Geraldine (late Steven) Riebe, and fondly remembered her late brothers Ambrose, Walter, and Donald Obuch. Her extensive family network also included dear sisters-in-law Monica, Helen, Cynthia Obuch, Cathy, and Carol Kutcka, alongside numerous beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom shared in her life’s joys and challenges.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to honor Luelle’s life on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at St. Adalbert Church, located at 121st Street and Indianapolis Blvd., Whiting. The Reverend Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., and Reverend Bruce Riebe will concelebrate the Mass, followed by the interment of cremains at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Hammond. Visitation will precede the services at the church, beginning at 9:00 AM.
Born on January 9, 1943, to Walter and Mary (Komar) Obuch, Luelle was a proud lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. Her roots ran deep within the fabric of the area, contributing significantly to its vibrant history and cultural tapestry, always embodying the spirit of her hometown.
Luelle was a proud alumna of George Rogers Clark High School, graduating with the distinguished Class of 1960. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her dedicated membership at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Whiting, where she actively participated in community and spiritual endeavors.
Her commitment to public service was exemplified through her long and distinguished career at the Whiting Public Library, from which she retired after an impressive 40 years of service. Additionally, Luelle generously volunteered at Nathan Hale School in Whiting for 17 years, nurturing young minds and supporting educational initiatives, truly leaving a mark on the lives of many students.
In her personal time, Luelle found joy in simple pleasures, cherishing flowers, indulging in gardening, and appreciating music. However, above all, the time spent with her family was her most treasured pursuit. Her unwavering devotion as a wife and mother will be among her most remembered qualities, defining her warm and generous spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the National Alzheimer Association, located at 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60601, honoring a cause close to their hearts. Luelle M. Kutcka’s passing marks the end of a remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy of love, commitment, and community involvement that will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
