The Exeter community recently mourned the passing of M. Lorraine LaNunziata, a beloved figure who departed on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the age of 90. Her life, marked by unwavering dedication and profound community spirit, left an indelible impact on all who knew her, solidifying her status as a true community leader in the region.
Born and raised in Exeter, Lorraine was the cherished daughter of the late Benedict Santine and Nora Fornale Santine. Her formative years in the town culminated in her graduation from Exeter High School, laying the groundwork for a life deeply rooted in local tradition and values.
Lorraine played a pivotal role in the success of a local business, Star Garment in Exeter, where she diligently managed the bookkeeping alongside her husband, J.L. LaNunziata. Her meticulous work and commitment were instrumental in the operation of the family enterprise, showcasing her strong work ethic and business acumen.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Lorraine’s spiritual life was a cornerstone of her existence. She was a devoted member of Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston, where her faith shone brightly. For many years, she dedicated her time and wisdom to teaching CCD, guiding countless young minds in their spiritual journeys and contributing significantly to the parish community.
Lorraine’s life was also touched by personal sorrow. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John P. LaNunziata, with whom she shared a deep bond. The loss of her sons, James LaNunziata and John (Bubba) LaNunziata, further tested her resilience, yet she faced these challenges with grace and strength.
Her enduring family legacy is carried forward by those who survive her. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Jeffrey LaNunziata, and his fianc Rae Ann Hizny, who continue her family’s traditions. Her daughters-in-law, Barbara LaNunziata and Nancy LaNunziata, also remain a vital part of her extended family.
Lorraine was also a cherished grandmother to JP LaNunziata, Jillian B, Jessica B, Melissa LaNunziata, Jason LaNunziata, and Albert Chase, each a testament to her profound influence. Her great-grandchildren, Gloria and Peter Anthony, represent the newest generation of her lineage. She is also survived by her brother, Ben Santine, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 10 AM in Corpus Christi Parish, located at 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, offering a solemn tribute to her life. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9 AM until the time of Mass in the church, providing an opportunity for the community to honor this cherished individual and reflect on her remarkable Exeter obituary.
